Hall Library/Media Center was established in June of 1997 to invite our students to learn, explore, experience and grow in a world of limitless technological possibilities. In just the short time since its inception, the Center itself has evolved into a technological haven where our students can safely explore all that the Internet, our Smart Boards and other technological mediums have to offer.
The following are the reasons our library/media center was founded:
In the complex, technological world of today, education is no longer simply the acquisition of a body of knowledge. It is rather the ability to continually process and use information from a vast array of sources. It is imperative as educators, we arm each Ste Jeanne d’Arc student with an ability to effectively evaluate sources, derive meaning from them, and react creatively to the results. For the successfully educated individual, this process of searching out answers, once learned, will be a lifetime skill.
As education moves beyond the textbook and the classroom, the school library/media center and its programs are essential to the education process by providing access to skillfully selected and managed materials. With these, the center can serve as a major channel through which an ever changing body of knowledge flows, providing all members of the school community with the broadest possible range of information and ideas.
The information explosion must not, however, eclipse our literary, historical and cultural heritage. The school library/media center must continue to provide programs and materials that promote a love of reading, improve listening skills, foster visual literacy, and encourage the appreciation of fine literature.
We are proud of our library/media center and look forward to future technological advances that will only enhance our students’ lives here at Ste Jeanne d'Arc School.
